  1. Complete Proper Training: Ensure you have completed a certified forklift training course (TLILIC0003 (2 Day) LF –  Licence to operate a Forklift Truck) Proper training is the foundation of safe forklift operation.
  2. Perform Pre-Operation Checks: Always inspect the forklift before use. Check the forklift visually for any damage, check your fluid levels, check for any mechanical issues, ensure the brakes and steering are working, and verify that the warning devices are working.
  3. Wear Appropriate PPE: Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as high-visibility vests, and steel-toed boots to protect yourself from potential hazards.
  4. Follow Load Capacity Guidelines: Never exceed the forklift’s load capacity as specified on the forklift’s data plate. Overloading can cause the forklift to tip over, leading to serious accidents.
  5. Maintain a Safe Speed: Operate the forklift at a safe speed, especially when turning corners or navigating through tight spaces. Always beep your horn before crossing or entering doorways, blind spots, blind corners or intersections.
